Off the back of 2 strong performances the team knew today they needed to do the basics well and play their game. However LongSutton were a side to be reckoned with as they attacked from the whistle. Nomads weren't without their chances and the 1st half demonstrated some excellent end to end hockey but LongSutton went in to halftime 1-0 up as they took their chance from a short corner.
After a strong 1st half performance from the Nomads 1st XI, LongSutton had a change in formation and stepped up their game in the 2nd half. Despite the tireless work of the home side, for a period the visitors dominated the play. A penalty stroke was awarded for a foot on the line by the Nomads defense giving LongSutton the chance to extend their lead. Boldly sending the Nomads goalie the wrong way, the striker converted the penalty taking their lead to 2-0. A further goal was added as a lifted ball was deflected over the top of everyones heads and into the top of the net. Despite the home side trying to rally, their efforts were thwarted and the game ended 3-0 to LongSutton at the final whistle.
There were no points on the board today for the Nomads side but it was still a performance the team can be proud of. It was a great team effort with every player working hard. Man of the Match was shared between Kate, Rach and Liz after 9 separate nominations!
Next week the girls are sure of another tough game as they face top of the league St Neots at home at the slightly later time of 2pm.
