After an extended christmas break Nomads Ladies 1st XI finally to the pitch again

With frozen pitches for the last 2 weeks it was now 8 weeks since the girls had played their last game! Despite several players suffering from winter lurgies the team was yearning for a game and excited to finally get on the pitch! Todays game was likely to be a tough one as they faced City of Peterborough 2s, a team who always give a good game and they drew 1-1 with during the 1st half of the season.

The girls started off strongly with some lovely passing throughout the team and the 1st goal was a real team effort. The ball was accurately passed around the back, to Laura on the left wing who carried it in to the D, striking for the far post, finding team mate Flip who swept the ball passed the Peterborough goalie. This early goal was almost neutralised as Peterborough attacked from a short. The player at the top of the D distributed the ball to the right who struck for goal, thankfully saved on the line by defender Lou and swept clear by goalie Jenny's stick. Nomads really dominated this early play with some excellent team work and passing and were rewarded by a 2nd goal scored by forward Charlotte. Their lack of recent match practice started to show towards the end of the 1st half as things started to break down and possession was lost, but the home side was held at bay by the Nomads defence and the scoreline was 2-0 at half time.

The girls rallied at the break, they felt this was their game and just needed to keep their heads! The visitors started strongly with more good passing and good control from the mid field, there was some excellent running from young Annie up front who continued to pressurise the home sides defence. Part way through the half reward came again in the form of a 2nd goal for Charlotte. Peterborough despite now being 3 goals down didn't back down and were rewarded by a penalty flick for a defenders foot on the line. Goalie Jenny faced the penalty take, staring her down the shot went wide hitting the post. Peterborough still pressured and had a series of penalty corners for reward but these aswell were faced down by the nomads defence.

And so, after what had been a very competitive game the Nomads side came away with a decisive and deserved 3-0 win. It was a really excellent team effort especially from those who were under the weather but still on the pitch giving it there all. Man of match went to Josie for her excellent play and work rate in defence.

Next week, the side face Long Sutton at home in what is likely to be another tough game
