Following their recent strong performance the team took to the pitch determined to play their own game and to let the experience and team work show over the student's youth.
Nomads dominated from the whistle and following heavy pressure in the visitors D it was Flip who drew 1st blood with a smash from the top of the D banging into the backboard. A goal from a short corner put Kate on the scoresheet and Laura striking the left corner took the Nomads total total to 3 at halftime.
The win was already in the girls grasp but the home side knew this was their opportunity to put some goals on the board! It was Charlotte who was next to add her name to the scoresheet followed by Liz who lifted the ball over the uni keeper. Goals 6 and 7 came from superb strikes from Kate, one after the other Kate clinically placed the ball into the bottom left corner to a hattrick! Goal 8 came from a well timed run and pass from Laura, finding Flip who scored her 2nd of the day! The final goal to round off the game came returning player Lily, back from Sheffield Uni for the weekend.
As for defence, well, it was pretty quiet for Lou, Zoe, Josie and Linsey but they did an excellent job of stepping up to support the midfield, and I hear it rumoured that Lou may have even entered the opposition D?! She'll have to be careful of altitude sickness playing that high! And in goal, lets say Jenny didn't put a foot wrong, but she did wish she'd put a few more layers on!
The 9-0 win resulted from a superb team performance with man of match going to hat trick scorer Kate!
So now we're entering the Christmas break for ladies 1s and at the half way point (well just past) of the season the team goal scoreboard is as follows:
9 Flip
6 Bethan
3 Kate, Laura and Liz
2 Charlotte
1 Ellie, Annie and Lily
While the Nomads sits closer than to the bottom of the 2NW league than they would like, there are just 7 between them and leaders Alford leaving it all to play for in the new year.
