Perseverance paid off for the 1st Xi as they finally got the win the deserved

Off the back of a strong performance but disappointing result last weekend against Royston the Nomads were determined to get the 3 points today as they faced a tough game against 2nd in the league Spalding1.

It was a hairy first few minutes of the game when the visitors almost took an early lead. A lifted shot on the Nomads goal was deflected by Goalie Jenny's shorts and looked to be heading to the inside of the top right post when it was swiped clear by defender Lou. From this moment Nomads found their flow with some excellent team work and linking past in midfield, dominating the remainder of the half. Their efforts paid dividends and the deadlock was broken just before the break by right half Flip with a superb individual effort. She managed to pass 2 defenders on the base line before rounding the Spaldings goalie and with a diving strike putting the ball in the back of the net.

Heading in to half time with a 1-0 lead and after a positive pep talk by Coach Paul the girls knew this was their game to win, but with just a 1 goal cushion there was no room for complacency. Nomads fears were compounded a well placed shot by the Spalding forward found the left side of the goal and drew the visitors level, with 5 draws already this season last thing the home side wanted. Chances ito retake the lead came in the form of 3 or 4 short corners but failed yield results. Just when it was looking like they would have to settle to for just the one point the break through came in the form of junior Ellie whose 1st goal for the 1st XI couldn't have come at at a better time! The game ended at 2-1, Nomads earning a valuable 3 points!

With half the team new to the 1st XI this season the perseverance and hard work of everyone are now showing on the pitch. Everyone played well, showing great individual skill and team work. Man of match going to goal scorer Flip.

Next week the team stay at home where they will look to show experience is worth more than youth as they tackle Cambridge University.
