Following on from their draw against Wisbech, this week Ladies 1s faced a well drilled Peterborough side. The ladies in red came out fighting and put the pressure straight on to Nomads defence but to no avail. The Nomads defence of Josie, Lou, Maddie and Rach held the Peterborough forwards at bay. Then, against the run of play a beautifully worked ball out of defence, put the opposition on the back foot. Played from Zoe on the wing, Annie skilfully set up a shot for fellow forward Bethan to poke in and, put the home side in to the lead. 1-0 was what it remained when the half time whistle blew.
The 2nd half began with a Nomads side determined to take the 3points this week. Some great use of space in the midfield spread the play as Linsey on the left played the ball through Kate to Flip running the line on the right and up to Ellie. A break from the Peterborough forward and a shot low right into the goal proved too good for Nomads keeper Jenny and pulled the visitors level. The game continued with end to end action. There was great drive from the home side as the team really looked like they wanted the win. It was a nail biting stuff with chances at both end, Liz driving the Nomads side forward again and again from her position in the centre. But it wasn't to be as 2 of Nomads attempts on goal passed unbearably close to the post in the closing few minutes. On the final whistle the score was tied 1-1, a frustrating but ultimately fair result for the action packed game.
This weeks man of the match goes to Liz for her great work in the centre and the muppet of the day went unanimously to Zoe for the black eye she gave herself!
Next week the ladies 1st XI travel north to Spalding where they play Long Sutton.
