Nomads Ladies 1s ventured to long road in the late afternoon sun for their first league game of the 23/24 season against Cambs South 4s. Armed with new coach Nigel’s skills and mindset, the ladies were ready for a strong game to start the season.
After a quick warm up to avoid overheating, the first half was evenly matched between the two sides. South capitalised on some quick passing and tapped a goal in on Nomad’s back post. Some strong right side play by Flip, Kirsty and Charlotte J pushed the South midfield and created attacking opportunities. Just before the half time whistle, a solid pass from Charlotte A in to the D couldn’t be stopped by the South defence and a touch from Zara ensured it crossed the goal line.
Fuelled by jelly babies and an even score line, Nomads came out looking for a win in the second half. Nomads began to break down South’s defence and a number of opportunities in their D were chased down by the forward line. A powerful top of the D strike by Hannah beat the keeper and put Nomads in the lead. Nomads had found their form and capitalised in the D by winning a number of short corners. A slip strike by Abi was rebounded and slotted home by Hannah for her brace. Nomads continued to fight to the full time whistle to finish the game with a 1 - 3 victory.
Player of the match went to Hannah for her superb goals in her first league appearance for the L1.
A fantastic start to the season for the L1 with plenty of positives to take with us for our first home game against Huntingdon next week.
