Despite not taking any points the ladies is 1st X (yes 10), can be proud of their performance against league leaders Peterborough 1.

With a number of absences from both 1st and 2nd teams, this week has been particularly tough for both captains, but they persevered and thanks to their stubborn dedication, on Saturday both ladies sides took to the pitch…

Ladies 1s travelled away to Peterborough to face their toughest challenge so far, the league leaders away, made even tougher by being a player down! However after a good warm up and a motivating team talk from Captain Liz Freeman the Nomads 10 were psyched and ready to give the home side something to think about!

In the 1st half Peterborough showed the skill passing the ball around the back however the Nomads defence of Lindsey Porter, Helen Patterson and Rachel Gooch held strong, holding off any attacking play from the opposition. An injury with a ball to Kate Westgate knee didn't dampened the teams resolve in defence as Kate soldiered on despite barely being able to walk! At the other end of the pitch there were chances for the Nomads 10 too with some good break away moves from forwards Bethan Davis and Natalie Cook. It was to be Nomads who found the back of the net 1st Awarded a penalty corner for a foot in the D a Flip Toley strike crossed the line unfortunately hitting the netting rather than the back board deeming it to be too high. In the closing moments of the 1st half Peterborough broke the deadlock with a breakaway slipping past the left glove of Nomads keeper Jenny Corish to give the home side a narrow 1-0 lead going in to half time.

Spurred on by their strong performance so far in the 2nd half Nomads continued to frustrate the Peterborough side, keeping possession with some lovely passing around the back and onto to Kathy Cox and Flip Toley on the wings. With Liz Freeman and Kate Westgate controlling the centre of the pitch Nomads continued to push forward looking for the equaliser. Unfortunately it was not to come as Peterborough struck again, this time from a short corner, and then before the final whistle they found the back of the net once more taking the final score to a 3-0 win for the league leaders.

Battered and bruised the Nomads 10 could feel justifiably proud of their performance despite the loss, showing their strength as a team against a strong side. Man of the Match went to captain Liz Freeman, leading from the front with her excellent play in the midfield.
