Nomads got off to strong start, passing round the back nicely between Helen Paterson, Linsey Porter and Gemma May to distribute the ball across the pitch. A pass from Kathy Cox on the wing was fed forward into the opponents D, just short of Flip Toley, but finding Liz Freemans’ stick, who swiped the ball into the top left hand corner, starting the score line 1-nil. The visitors displayed their strength but failed to penetrate the home side defense, until the final 30 seconds of the first half, when a quick break from the half way line found its way to the back of the net, to take the score to 1-1 at half time.
After a pep talk by Paul ‘croaky’ Matthews, Nomads took to the field again, but a quick second break by the visitors caught Nomads off guard, and lead to a second goal for Long Sutton. Some scintillating hockey from both sides lead to chances at both ends, and some nice work by forwards Lois May and Bethan Davis was only scuppered by a strong Sutton defense. Long Sutton scored 3rd goal from a lifted shot in the D and then added another from a speedy break giving a 3 on 1 situation against outnumbered Nomads Goalie Jenny Corish. A consolation goal gave nomads the final say as Kate Westgate poked in a short corner.
Final score was a disappointing 4-2 to Long Sutton with player of the match going to Kate Westgate. Roll on next week when we play Top of the Table Peterborough –aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!
