When you can fit the entire team in 2 cars you can’t help thinking its going to be a long day…

With 8 1st XI players unavailable this weekend due to various reasons the challenge fell to stand in captain Kate Westgate to get a team out on pitch. Despite a valiant effort; many phone calls, pleading, begging and in the end borrowing from the Ladies 2nd XI it was a team of 10 which traveled north to Wisbech.

Warmed up, psyched up and ready to go the Nomads 10 started strongly with the back line of Lindsey Porter, Helen Patterson, Anna Withington and Gemma May demonstrating some excellent passing around the back creating space for the team to attack. The midfield worked tirelessly feeding balls through to Lily Mathews and Tina up front. Despite being a man down Nomads struck first with the ball fed from the defense to Abby Childs on the wing and on to Kate Westgate. Kate found Lilly Matthews, who showed her skill rounding 2 defenders and went it alone to slot the ball past the Wisbech keeper. Wisbech continue to battle but were held at bay by the Nomads superior defense and at half time Nomads lead the Game 1-0.

The game continued to go Nomads way in the second half with a few close chances on goal the Wisbech goal. Finally, a well-executed pass from Kate found Flip Toley on the edge of the D. she struck it superbly to score a fine goal travelling cross the D to beat the defense and the opposition goalie. Wisbech despite being superior in numbers and having 2 substitutes on the bench never looked like scoring with the shots on goals comfortably cleared by Nomads goalie Jenny Corish. The team continued to battle in defense and attack, never letting up despite feeling tired and held on for a very well deserved 2-0 win!

Man of the match went to Lily Mathews for her efforts up front. Special thanks also most be given to Gemma May, Abby Childs and Tina who stepped up this game, rising to the occasion and helping the 1st put 3 points on the board. It goes to show its quality not quantity which counts!

Next week the team faces Bourne Deeping at home.
