After being left battered and bruised following a disappointing result last week, Cambridge Nomads were determined to return to their winning ways.

This week a strong ladies 1st XI team tackled Peterborough 2s at home.

The game was end to end with chances for both teams, but Nomads drew first blood. After 15 minutes a Kate Westgate long ball was crossed by Bridget Black to Flip Toley. Flips first stike was well saved by the Peterbourgh goal keeper but her follow up shot dribbled over the line to make it 1-0 to the home side. Another goal came shortly after for the home side, a Bethan Davies cross was tapped over the line by Bridget who was in the perfect position for an easy goal. The game continued to be end to end with the visitors battling hard but the Nomads defence of Lindsey Porter, Helen Patterson and Rachel Gooch proved too stubborn for them. Half time came with Nomads looking strong leading 2-0.

The home side were rocked straight after half time when Peterborough scored a lovely strike from the top of the D, to bring them back in to the game at 2-1. However Nomads reacted in the perfect way by immediately regaining their 2 goal cushion thanks to another Bridget Black goal and reminding the girls of a quote from training “it only takes 40seconds to score a goal!” With a couple of saves from Nomads goalie Jenny Corish the defence stayed strong and continued to frustrate the Peterborough attack. Despite many attempts away side efforts from the short corner was fruitless as their short corner routine was thwarted by Nomads runners Kate Westgate and Lindsey Porter. Helen Patterson showed her precision and skill as she took command from the defensive free hits, passing the ball through to Liz Freeman and Kathy Cox in the midfield. Fed in by Maria Pylas the final goal came from Bethan as Nomads were triumphant with impressive 4-1 victory.

A very well deserved man of the match went to Helen Patterson for her defensive efforts. Next week the team travel north as they play Wisbech away.
