Young Patterson shows great composure in the midfield

Another trip to the distant lands of the borough to face what we expected to be another regular day in the office. No real surprises in the result as Nomads continues to dominate the league. In winds of 22mph Nomads kept control of the midfield and our strikers wreaked havoc in the opposition defense. After a couple of failed shorts, our veteran Irish international decided to take the next strike. His shot would have been above the back board, but it was deflected by the keeper and the umpires could not ascertain if the ball would have dropped, although we all thought it was too high. A goal in any case and from then on Peterborough were on the back foot.
A talented Murray Patterson played the first half up front rotating with Angus, Garth, and Mike. Great movement of the ball, lead runs and loads of opportunities. Second goal came at the hands of a not-entirely fit Angus, who was reminiscing of all the wine he drank the night before. But as the hard work was done elsewhere in the field he just had to finish it off…
The third goal arrived shortly afterwards as we kept pounding at their gate. Shots flying from pretty much everywhere. Mike Tuft making good lead runs and give options, eventually finding the back net.
The opposition had some young forwards who were quick on the attack but lacked team structure and support, so they could not penetrate the Nomads fortress guarded by an experienced Barry, Toby debuting on centre back, and the Davies brothers on left/right back. Davies senior barely moved a muscle in goal with only his eyes doing the work of tracking ball.
Second half was more of the same, this time with Paterson playing in the core midfield and moving in unison with Tim and skip. That core controlled the park fairly well and the distribution was almost always textbook. Murray showed good composure in the field, not panicking, and connecting passes to open sticks, well done.
Fourth goal was then score by skip who only had to tap it in after the hard work done by Luke Davies and Angus down the right channel, with a cross to my open stick. The last goal came of a short corner struck by Angus, deflected by an opposition stick and into the back net.
After the match we all revelled with some chilli con carne and quenching elixirs. The conversation in all quarters revolved around how well Murray had played, clearly earning him the Man of the Match. Going forwards we will nominate a MoM by those present at teas, so don’t miss out!

For those interested in statistics, Pete Jarvis used to keep a goal leader board. I don’t know if he still does. But since I took over I’ve been entering the goal scorers in Pitchero. By my count, since 20th November 2021, the goal tally for 3s is as follows:
Angus 6
Zinny 6
Mike 4
Temoc 4
Ollie 2
Murray 2
Arthur 2
Garth 1
Luke W 1
Spence 1
Charlie 1
Fin M 1
