Nomads Two take a 3-1 win against St Ives

After ANOTHER cancelled fixture (due to frost and snow) the previous weekend, it was good to play some hockey.

These two sides were evenly matched for much of the game, but by the end Nomads clinched it with a little more passion and more willingness to win the ball.

Noteworthy mention to Josh Lewin who played his first game for the Twos and put in a tidy performance - well done!

The 0-0 deadlock lasted for most of the first half. It was broken when Ellis, with a little space, received a pass just outside the circle. With a couple of touches, he was in the D and fired a shot off. The keeper was obliged to lie flat. Woody picked up the rebound, rounded the sprawled keeper and the odd defender or two to have a clear shot at goal which he duly dispatched.

After half time, Ellis scored a true centre forward's goal: a fast break found Ellis 10 yards out from the goal line and with poise, he slotted past the approaching keeper.

St Ives found the backboards with a shot from open play which found a chink (ie John's injury!) in the Nomads armour.

The second half, Nomads defensive line deserves full credit for keeping out 10 or so St Ives' short corners.

Nomads third goal came from a turnover which Nomads quickly exploited. Jordan received a pass around the half way line, broke free of his man, passed to Ed on the 25 yard line who slipped it onto Ellis who steered the ball nicely under the keeper to take the score to 3-1.

As Seth said in the pub, in another season, this might have been the sort of game that we'd have lost 3-1, but we extend our winning run, putting us 4th in the table.
