With no goalkeeper, and lots of spirit, the U12 Girls had a good day in the sunshine on the lovely new Wilberforce Road pitches.
They went down by 2 goals in the opening game against City As, but created plenty of chances and probably fair to say that the goalkeeper (or lack of) made the difference.
The second game, against another City team, finished goalless – a good achievement when playing with no keeper, and then the girls rounded off a good day with a 1-0 win over Saffron Walden. I forget already who scored, but Zara and Louisa up front were a thorn in the oppositions’ defences all day, backed up by hard-work from the midfield. But player of the day, for me, was Bryony, for her commanding defensive performance, tackling everything that came her way and passing intelligently out of defence. Well done to all!
