After several years just missing out, this year we've made it

Our men’s 3rd XI have had a strong season with 17 wins, 2 draws, and 2 losses to finish top of division 5NW after a long spell finishing as runner ups. For many years, the team has faced strong opposition that have swept the promotion spot. Glimmers of change appeared in the 2020/2021 season as we returned from the pandemic, only for the season to be declared void and so our Nomads had to wait another year to show what they are made of.

The 2021/2022 season has not been without challenges. From the early weeks, a rivalry for top of the table started to appear between St. Ives 4s and Nomads 3s, Nomads only staying clear by a few points and always within reach if we were to slip. The story finally unravelled in the closing weeks of the season as St. Ives slipped against middle of the table teams and Nomads kept its top form until the end.

However, keeping a strong form through a long season requires commitments from players and from the club. At a personal level the commitment shown by our players was visible as week after week our strong core made themselves available at home or away and at whatever time and weather was thrown at them. Our 3rd XI team have grown from a collection of individuals to a high performing team where there is trust, respect, and support of each other.

Our 3s captain, Temoc Rodriguez, said “I am really proud of every player that has played for the 3s this year. Everyone has given it all on the pitch. The mix of players we’ve had this year, from experienced players to developing juniors, has been key in maintaining top form throughout the season.”

At a club level, the support and coordination between all men’s teams has been instrumental in ensuring that a strong 3rd XI was fielded every week. Our investment in the junior section has also helped boost the numbers in the lower team to allow players to move up whilst at the same time creating space for juniors to progress their development.

Subject to the league organisers, the Nomads 3rd XI are now in a position to move up to division 4NW where they will be facing stronger opposition. This has been an aspiration of the club for some time as our teams are now better distributed among the league divisions and developing players will find it easier to progress their game and move up the teams.
