The new hockey season is nearly with us! Here are all the necessary details to help you hit the ground running

Information for existing members and a number of you who have enquired about us since the 2017/18 season finished at the end of March

First training session – 5th September 2018 at Coldhams Astro, CB5 8NT; Please arrive early so that we can start promptly at 19.00 and be there on time to collect your kids at 20.00

Training session structure - As last year, we will split into 3 groups managed by the same coaching teams each week; Given existing members are 6 months older and we will have an influx of new members it will take us a few weeks to get everyone in the right groups so please bear with us on this one! Our coaching team of c. 10 (who all play for Nomads) is a blend of Men, Ladies and some ex Juniors who have moved through the club into the higher teams. Broadly speaking everyone will experience a mix of basic skills training, fun drills, and plenty of game time

Potential new members - If you are new to the club come and try us out first before making any commitment. Do make sure that you don’t leave the session without giving us your full contact details and then I will send you a membership form and subscription details including how to register on our website. The season subscription is £37 if paid before 31/10/18 and £40 if received after this date, and this entitles you to attend all the Wednesday training sessions through to March, and represent the club in any of the U10, U12 and U14 Competitions that we are part of.

Competitions – As mentioned above we enter a number of competitions for the various age groups. We will be entering Boys U14 and Girls U14 teams into regional England Hockey leagues, and the U10’s Mixed and U12’s (Boys and Girls separately) play in a number of match days featuring other Cambridgeshire clubs. All competition hockey is on a Sunday, and we will give you all the dates and details in due course (they will also be posted this year on our website – www.nomadshc.co.uk

Kit – The basic requirements for Wednesday nights are gum shields, shin pads, stick and water bottle. If you don’t have a stick we have a bag of hand me downs to borrow, but hockey is much more enjoyable with a new stick of the right size! We have also set up a new Nomads online shop with a new kit supplier, Samurai which you will find at https://samuraiclubshops.com/uk/cambridgenomadshc/ If you want to place a new order, please order straight from the shop, and the lead time should be 2-3 weeks. This will replace the t-shirts that we’ve used for the past few seasons. Please note that you don’t have to buy kit – we will provide playing kit for matches – but we would encourage it as being part of one club.

Goalkeepers - We are keen to train up more goalkeepers; We have 2 full Junior goalkeeping kits and a goalkeeping coach who has played hockey at the highest level. He is looking forward to training the next generation of Nomads goalkeepers!

Website – As noted above, we are planning on making more use this year of the website to manage your membership, communicate with you and manage fixtures (availability & selection). Therefore it is really important that you are registered on the website – both parent and child. Existing members have been uploaded and will shortly get an email to update their information. We’ll let new members know the process. So keep an eye on the website!
