Transportation featured once again in Nomads Twos' away matches – the A14 was closed at Huntingdon, resulting in some navigation through the back streets of St Neots.
Nomads Twos assembled pitch side with an attacking and youthful front line. Our tactics were to play this game in Peterborough's half and fierce battles eschewed in midfield. Dan Jarvis and irregular Nomad, Tom Wightman made a penetrating difference in our attacks.
Nomads held the slight command in the first half which proved to be a match of relative equals. The only goal after 35 minutes was beautifully slapped in by Martin. Tom, from a couple of yards inside the left sideline spied Martin Hamon stepping off his man on the other side of the pitch and lashed the ball in his direction. Ellis managed a glancing touch on it, before it found Martin met the ball running in on the back post to comprehensively put it into the netting.
After halftime, Peterborough regrouped and pressed hard. The telling difference was that Dan & Ellis, our men up front, proved to be difficult for the midfield and the defense to pick out, as they were well marked. Having three substitutes helped their cause too. Nomads defense soaked up plenty of pressure - Seth notably fended off three Peterborough attackers when he critically received a back pass with limited room to spare.
Peterborough converted their pressure and scored three goals. Dan squeaked a late consolation goal which managed to find the backboards - quite how remains a mystery even to him.
And with that, we wish Joel a happy return to Holland and thank him for his playing – a warm Nomadic welcome will always await you in Cambridge!
