Nomads took the initiative from the outset, gaining a better grip on early possession, but South took the lead in the first half. One glorious goal from returning Nomad, Dan Ravenscroft, who undoubtedly frightened South with his speed. After some good work in the D from the forward line, the ball fell Dan on the left hand side about 2 yards from the baseline. He rounded one player and managed to thread the ball past the goalkeeper across the goaline to hit the sideboards, bringing the game to a 1-1 draw at half time.
Ethan saved a penalty flick – admittedly not the strongest of flicks – but credit where credit is due – the ball didn't cross the line.
South scored a second and telling goal in the second half on a fast break. As the clock ran down, Nomads piled on the pressure, but no clear opportunity to convert became apparent.
The summary of the game was Nomads moved the ball well out of defense and attacked Cambridge South's territory. Tim represented a key part as central distributor and ball recycler when going forward. However South's defense stayed deep and we were unable to break them down.
The match finished at 2-1 – perhaps a draw would have been a fairer result??
