The sweet taste of victory - Nomads Twos power past Horncastle

Distant Horncastle migrated south to Coldhams and were met with a strong Nomads opposition - one that was strong in depth and number - the latter being a novel occurrence in history of CNHC Second Team over the last couple of years.

Nomadic Rory Cathchpole made his first (and telling!) appearance of this year's campaign - and we hope to see more of him soon. Prodigal son, Garth Hanlon returned from a long odyssey - a gap of 10 years was mentioned. Garth soon found his first touch and demonstrated his eagerness to blitz a shot off once in the D.

The first credit to Nomads score line was the result of a Horncastle defender scoring by perfectly slotting a loose ball around the P spot past his own keeper. We assume it was a very flawed emergency clearance - anyway a welcome start.

New Nomad, Tom Wightman, scored second nicely, from a drag flick short corner routine. Dan Jarvis beautifully fizzed one past the goal keeper at shoulder height despite being closely shadowed by Horncastle defenders. Towards the end of the first half, Nomads then stepped off the accelerator to allow Horncastle to score, taking us into the break at 3-1.

The second half saw more Nomad beauty. Martin George added a fourth, a well-deserved goal on top of excellent game, from a goal line scrabble after a short corner routine. Tom sealed the victory in the final minutes with an excellent rising shot from 10 yards out having semi-whiffed his first attempt, but he made no mistake from his second. In between, we allowed Horncastle another glimpse of our goal.

The final result: a satisfying 5-2 victory - great team effort - and how sweet did it taste!
