Nomads Two lose 3-1 to an experienced St Ives

Nomads had an unusually early start on Saturday, playing St Ives Threes. We were optimistic as our side was populated with youthful talent and some new faces.

The outcome was 1-3, but this didn't reflect how closely Nomads competed - a fact that St Ives manager admitted. Without doubt, we were confronted with a stern and experienced defense in the form of their two central defenders and a highly competent goalie.

Pete Atkin made Nomads only goal, early in the second half, as a Jack Hallworth shot rebounded to him. Pete moved the ball on his open stick side, rounded the keeper and clattered the ball into the backboards through a crowded D. This goal leveled the score line at 1-1 and Nomads felt that they were back in the game. Later in the second half, stalwart Dave Spence found himself in heady territory on the back line and lashed one at the goal, but it was not to be.

Highly creditable performances came from new faces: Bas Slok, Tom Wightman, Martin George and Raj Mahendrea - we look forward to more.

This match represented Dave Spence's last match with Nomads - he will be sorely missed, but we wish him well and will surely see him again both on the pitch and at Nomad socials.
