Another point for Nomads Twos - three goals each for Nomads and Wisbech Threes

The weak winter sun shone down on Coldhams. Unusually for Nomads, in the first 10 minutes, we started off more aggressively than Wisbech. Youngster, Sam Walsh managed to poach an early goal in a goal mouth scrabble – great opportunistic play!

Wisbech managed to score a rather weak goal. At the other end, Sam once again managed to get the ball through a raft of players in another goal mouth melee. Arthur actually prodded the trickling ball over the line from 6 inches as a defender was about to clear it – but credit to Sam for doing the hard work.

Then, tragedy: Sam was clattered to the ground from the wrong side by a Wisbech player. Sam hobbled off the pitch and his Dad took him to A&E, with the diagnosis of broken collar bone. (Sam will be off school for a couple of days and off sports for a couple of months - speedy return, Sam!)

At the break, Nomads were 2-1 ahead, but now down to 10 men. Stalwart Nomads hockey ensued. Nomads' epic, final goal came from a mighty manoeuvre from Steve Hodsdon. He picked up a loose ball just inside the half way line, marched up the pitch and stroked a lovely pass out to Martin on the right wing. Martin served inside. Steve pounced on the loose ball in Wisbech’s D and drilled into the bottom right hand corner. Well deserved goal.

Both sides pushed for the clinching goal. In the dying minutes, Pete Atkin rounded the keeper, but couldn’t find the narrow angle to score. In the end, the score was 3-3 and another Nomadic point!

Happy Christmas!!
