Nomads Twos threaten Cambridge South's dominance, but lose 7-4

Nomads Twos entertained Cambridge South 1 at Coldhams on a soggy afternoon. Cam South have led the league and have been very strong, but have lost their last two games. With Nomads Two propping up the bottom of the league, clearly we were the underdogs in this battle.

In the first half, Nomads went ahead twice: guesting Dan Jarvis (happily for the Two attending because he couldn't play away due to his Dad's birthday - Happy Birthday, Pete!) demonstrated how to put the ball in the back of the net. Cambridge South came back. Ben Merrick slotted home from a tight angle having initiated the maneuver from a long corner. Once again, Cambridge South replied.

At half time, Nomads were 2-2 and had surprised South and had with everything to play for. (Indeed their captain reported at the Corner House that they were licking their lips in the anticipation of a goal haul.) Not only did they not get their goal haul in the first half, but we put the frighteners on 'em.

The second half produced some great hockey - goalie Stephenson reported that, on occasions, all of South's players were in their own half, such as the intensity of the Nomads' attack. Sadly, Nomads finished the second half 5-2 down with goals from Dan R and Arthur.

Credits due to Jonjo who had a lovely game in a more forward position than usual, with 3 assists. Doc Wareham had an excellent game and continually demonstrated leadership in defense.

Arthur will credit the League with two umpires, one from South and our own Ben van Well for excellent 'piring.
