1-1 draw - one of those that we should have won

Another lovely afternoon at Coldhams and we met with plenty of familiar faces in the Peterborough fifth team.

Strange though it may sound, Nomads benefited from the Corona virus in that Perse School matches were cancelled and as a result, a number of talented and youthful stars were able to take to the pitch, in doing so, saving the legs of some senior Nomads, particularly in the second half.

Nomads started brightly and controlled the first half and our aforementioned youth helped in pace off the ball and covering the pitch and tackling back. We went 1-0 up midway through the first half - no more than we deserved: a glorious, brisk series of passes from Mikey, Dom, Mel and Paul to who dispatched with a very deft first time swept shot from the top of the D.

They equalised in the dying seconds of the half after a very confusing sequence of short corners, with various Peterborough attackers being sent to the half-way line for encroachment. Who knew that rule? Fortunately our umpires, though it confused most of those on the pitch. Utterly gutting as it was against the run of play.

The start of the second half was scrappy with neither side really stringing passes together. There was a crazy, defensive incident in which several Nomads players deemed it necessary to throw themselves dramatically on the floor right next to the goal. From the captain's perspective, the ball did appear to bounce of the post surrounded by an army of horizontal blue 'n' white players, so perhaps it was necessary?!??

Apart from several near misses and half chances in the Peterborough D, we can forget the second half as the two teams ended up cancelling each other out, and our earlier, neat passing dissipated rather. The clock ran down and the game ended 1-1, handing Nomads their first draw of the season.

MoM - John for some critical saves and general presence in the D; Ellis played well in midfield, relieved not to replay his centre back role.
DoD - Arthur - for team sheet malfunction and not actually being sure of the score at the end of the match (there weren't that many goals to count)!
