Top of the table contenders, St Ives showed their capability at Coldhams

(Report from Thom W)

• 1st attack, sliced through, P corner, set up Barry with a goal line save – deemed to be his arm. P flick, goal. 0-1 St Ives.
• Time to wake up Nomads.
• Nomads, struggled to keep possession.
• St Ives midfielder got free in middle, opened up D, evaded a sprawling keeper. 0-2.
• Nomads battled back, earned some shorts, but couldn’t convert.
• We continued to struggle to keep possession – their lightening winger having the legs on Ed
• St Ives slipped another before HT. 0-3.
• Nomads dishevelled, but determined.
• Started second half brighter.
• Paul 1 on 1, shot going top corner, keeper pulled out a fingertip save, only for the ball to continue, tantalizingly looping towards goal, only for the spinning ball to be cleared by defender
• Other chances came, Angus, Max, Sugi battling into D. Shorts were earnt, but goals weren’t converted.
• Thom got free at the top of the D, rifled it passed the keeper – only to find a resolute post – bounced back to a charging Arthur, only to be tapped out of reach by a defender
• A strong cross, met in the middle, deflected to goal, but again the keeper was a match.
• With more control on the game for chunks Nomads looked stronger, but faded in the middle of the half, again struggling to stay composed on the ball and spitting it back too readily.
• Chances came, but weren’t converted.
• At the other end, a clinical St Ives put a drag flick away (0-4), along with a couple of open field plays to leave it 0-6 going into the last 5 minutes.
• A determined nomads continued to press, looking to break the keeper down, but he was on fire, and we couldn’t find a way round him.
• It finished 0-6 – their keeper with his 4th clean sheet in January, and Nomads bemoaning missed opportunities.
• A tighter game than the scoreline reflects, though St Ives certainly had the better of us. They were more clinical in finishing, and we spat up possession too easily. Lessons to be learnt – savour the ball in all sections of the pitch.

The game as I saw it.
