Nomads win 2-1 on a chilly morning

With the sky occasionally squeezing out the odd snowflake, Nomads gathered early to wind their way up north to the frequently-mispronounced ‘Arthur Mellows Village College Astro’ near Market Deeping.

Nomads started the match poorly – Bourne Deeping pegged us back into our own half, but occasional flashes of Sugi + Whiffen sparkle on the right side of the pitch sowed worry in the BD defence. However, Nomads began to counter BD’s excellent 16 yard hits and their own comprehensive ringing of Nomads hits. Unfortunately, BD won a short corner seconds before the half time whistle and with a slick routine, their central defender put the ball in from the P spot.

The Nomads took a greater command of the game in the second half. Nomads’ first goal started from a side line hit from Jez to Arthur who turned and slotted through to Angus on the back line. He passed adroitly to Sugi on the P spot who, with the keeper already committed at the near post, had no difficulty in putting the ball against the backboards.

The red mist briefly descended on Wild Man Fieth, but the altercation with big 6’4’’ BD captain was promptly soothed over and Tim returned to his church retreat that afternoon to ask for forgiveness! The match seemed to be stuck at 1-1, with Nomads, in general, having the run of the play. Rick had a shot saved off the line by a defender’s timely stick. Nomads forward line combined to score, but the ref spotted a back-of-the-stick plus obstruction in the half second beforehand. We even benefited from two BD green cards, but we couldn’t seem to make the difference.

The defining goal came from a Nomads shortie. Sugi injected to Arthur, who slipped to Max who slapped the ball first time into the goal with precision accuracy - lovely - and it was rehearsed too!

Nice to come home with 3 points on a chilly outing. Enjoy the slip weekend and we restart on 25th February at home.
