Nomads showed up at Coldhams with a strong side on paper and our defence (John, Tom, Barry, Dave, Wattsy) proved to be impenetrable. John, in goal, had so little to do, he felt obliged to earn the right to his tea by undertaking a dramatic dive to cover his left post, even the ball was struck well outside the D and pinged off the outside of the uprights.
Nomads' only goal in the first half came from Rich Mackie as he got the merest tickle of a deflection inside the D from a well-struck ball from Dave Watts from near the 23m line.
In the second half, Sugi executed his trademarked run down the right and then along the back line. He slotted to Rick whose shot was deflected by a Wellingborough defender and the ball found Max on the back post who knocked the ball home with some controversy. After the umpires had a discussion, the goal was awarded to give Max his second of the season.
Nomads' final goal was smashed in by Ed Holmes from the top of the D - such was the momentum imparted that it nearly wiped Ed off his feet!
At the final whistle, the score was 3-0, but the outcome should have been more telling as Nomads had four subs and one of Wellingborough players spent a good portion of the first half nursing his foot. At the Brook, 'Boro revealed that they, as recent arrivals from the East Midland league, have struggled to bring a full team to away fixtures. Two of their players were new to hockey and only had 4 games between them. Credit to Boro's two central defenders who proved to be the bedrock of their team, even if one of them had such a strike that he felled Rich and Arthur.
