With 10 men, Nomads Twos survive a trip to top-of-the-table Spalding with merely flesh wounds

Nomads suffered Friday night / Saturday tradegies with players struck down with illness or lack of availability. Despite some scrambling, ten fine men travelled to Spalding to face their Twos who reigned join top of of 4NW.

The game started brightly for Nomads: some opportunity in front of goal - Arthur was one-on-one with the Spalding goal keeper, but was closed down by the time the shot was unleashed. Sugi's energetic running and harrying caused ruptions in our opposition's defence throughout the game.

At half time, Nomads were three goals adrift and in the second half Spalding added another two from a mixture of open play and good short corner routines. Nomads' defence faced some stern tests, but they fought well. Technical acumen repeatedly defeated superior numbers on numerous occasions. The play of the game was surely Spencer's beautifully executed forehand smash from a Spalding lob - the ball was picked out of the air from 12 feet high or more - Federer would have been proud!
