Nomads Club had the unusual luxury of full availability across all three sides this weekend, requiring captains to actually undertake a 'selection' procedure – long may these New Year's resolutions last!
This match belonged to our two Nomads strikers, each of their goals was assisted by the other: Ellis Maloney raced to a hat-trick within the first 25 minutes and Si Fitch scored two goals either side of half-time. Arthur scored the final goal from assisted by Fitchy and Ellis in the final 10 minutes.
Nomads looked most dangerous after turning over the ball in between the opposition's 23 meter line and the half-way line. Worthy mention to Ed Holmes for being instrumental to setting up these chances in the mid-field. As usual, Nomads back line provided the spine of the team.
But St Ives provided some scares. At 4-0 at half time, Nomads were undeniable, but St Ives kicked out a spirited and determined second half: John was required to smother several St Ives attacks. Spence put in a critical tackle as the last man in defence. Exceptional athletic coverage by Jonty in the last 5 minutes saved a Nomadic embarrassment. Young Nomad, Archie Jones, saw his first taste of Nomads Twos hockey and answered the call of duty admirably.
An excellent start to 2016!
