Nomads started strongly. In the first 15 minutes, Nomads’ passing was good but no clear cut changes came. Both sides had chances, but both sets for defenders holding strong with good tackling preventing any score.
Then at the 20 minute mark, Ciaran broke free from his marker and went on a great run that no-one from Ely could stop. He passed it to Sugi who tapped the ball in. For the rest of the half, the play was close. At half time, the score was 1-0 to nomads.
With the words of captain of the day, Tim Fieth, and from Rick Mort, ringing in the ears of the players, Ely started the second half better. Two good tackles from Rick Mort and some world-class saves from John Stephenson kept the score at 1-0. Rick slotted a great pass to Ciaran who beat his man in the centre and ran in to the D to score a great goal. 2-0.
Nomads kept the good work going and, with some good play on the right wing, we got the ball to Ciaran who scored his second and Nomads 3rd 3-0. Ely continue to push for a goal. In the last minute or so, Ely won a short corner that they converted. Final score 3-1 to Nomads.
Nomads were surprised by the strength of the opposition, but apparently, Ely had 11 players on the pitch for one of the rare occasions this season.
