Fortunately, the dry weather early in the season meant that Wisbech's ol' pitch was in a much better condition than might be seen in late January!
It was a comprehensive team performance that soon had the opposition on the back foot. Dave Spence scored his first league goal with his new(ish!) stick from a pass from Ellis on the edge of the D into the P spot. Nomads' second is credited to Si Fitch following some surging open play which was broken down in the D but not cleared by Wisbech defence which he converted.
Wisbech recovered a goal. Sam Walsh then made the individual play of the game when he picked up the ball near the half way line on the left hand side of the pitch in space. He moved diagonally across the pitch, carefully evading tackles. A nice turn in the D committed the goal-keeper before the ball was struck sweetly home - beauty!
3-1 at half time. Wisbech reordered their game play with more direction in the middle. Nomads defense tightened up too with their most able striker carefully watched by Jez Cotton. Si Fitch and Sam Walsh constantly caused mayhem in Wiz's defence. Josh and Arthur linked up in the middle of the opposition's territory. Josh delivered to Fitchy who charged in the D, turned in front of goalie and fired passed him to find the backboards.
Wisbech recovered one. Sam scored again - the details of which your reporter fails to recall. Comments, people?!?
In all, an excellent performance all round. Josh looked increasingly at ease and played with increasing aplomb. Particular credit goes to the defence who looked very solid as a unit and saved two off the line.
Nomads finds themselves third in the league - and it has been many a year since the Twos have been able to stare down the league from its higher echelons!
