In superb game in beautiful weather, Nomads edge out over a strong City side with some fine hockey

A vintage Nomads side - a fine gathering of Twos talent reminisce of yesteryear in 2N – visited St John’s College. A typically competent City side faced us, matched by a high standard of refereeing.

City scored from their first short corner. Nomads quickly recovered with a lovely passing manoeuvre from Rick to Jack sprinting into the opposition’s 23. Jack passed square to Arthur who shipped on to Fitchy on his left who slotted home nicely. Credit goes to our defence, as our possession started from our own 23m line.

Nomads’ second goal resulted from some hockey pinball between Nomads and City in their D with both sides failing to stamp their authority on the ball. Ultimately, the ball fell to Sugi who shovelled it in.

City drew level again from a shortie. Nomads’ third goal came from a drive down the right with a cross from Spence not cleared by City defence. Arthur pounced on the ball on the back line and pushed it to the P spot. In the melee of players, somehow Sugi stroked sweetly it into the backboards. City drew level again at 3 apiece.

Jack scored the fourth by stroking it into the left hand corner from open play. Jack please use the comments section to talk us this goal please!

City recovered again to tie the match up at 4-4. The final and critical Nomads goal came as a result of Jez (“the only stallion left in the field”) storming into the opposition D, rifling off a shot which the City keeper saved. Fitchy followed up and his shot deflected from the goalie’s pads into the roof of his own net.

Jack attempted some show-boating, reverse stick shots just failing to land in the tennis courts and to smash the corner flag respectively.

A huge, Nomadic team effort gave the Final score to be 5-4 – sweet victory!
