The result was a fair outcome: City, as you'd expect, were precise and merciless with any errors. Nomads had the benefit of more youth on their side. However there were a number of players who could have easily played on either side, such is the intertwined history between the clubs.
Martin scored the two Nomads goals. His first goal resulted from receiving the ball from Paul(?) on the baseline, then making a prompt turn around the P spot and firing the ball blind to find the backboards. City responded with two goals, one of which was an unstoppable short corner flick into the top right corner. In the final minutes of the game, a fast break down the left hand side found Martin on the edge of the D. He beat the defender to go one-on-one with the keeper. Once the goalie committed to going to ground, he lofted the ball over him to draw level.
It was an excellent game to observe, in which the team rose to produce a high standard of play. John was required to provide some excellent goal-keeping and great to see the youngsters playing with authority and patience when needed. Thanks to the umpires (Rick and Doc) for handling the game with aplomb when necessary. @WillE Given your carpet rash, I hope you've managed to sit down by now?!?
