A Cambridge derby that matched expectations - a tight game with little ground surrendered from both sides and played heart and passion. Credit to the umpires for ruling with a good and fair whistle.
The summary of the game was an equal battle. South had a couple of short corners which they failed to meaningfully press and a couple of shots which required John's expert intervention, but much of the game was contained in the middle half of the pitch. Nomads showed significantly improved performance in comparison to last week's friendly by using the full width of the pitch and improved accuracy of passing. There were period of flowing Nomads play with Matthew having the best of the shooting chances.
South's goal came from a quickly taken hit on the 23m line to a striker just inside the D, who swiftly passed to their man on the post to deflect into the goal.
Donkey of Day was pounced upon in the first half by Ed for failing to retreat from a free hit twice and receiving some spectator time. He was sorely challenged for this prestigious award at the start of the second half by Spence for calling Rick on, believing that we had insufficient men on the pitch. He forgot to include our goalkeeper in the arithmetic!
Nominations for Man of the match were several - which is always pleasing, but it was shared by the youngsters: Ellis Maloney and Max Standing.
