The formidable City Vets, who are destined for promotion from 4NW league, entertained Nomads at Long Road. The Nomads side, with some effort(!), was heavy on experience, but our youth rose to the challenge and all put in a great performance.
Within the first 10 minutes, Nomads took the game by the scruff of the neck with Hodo testing the keeper and Arthur finding Sam at the top of D uncontested - but the pass was just too slippery.
Nomads had the first goal as a result of short corner: Hodo's first shot was parried by the Vets' goalie, as was his second, which was cleared as far as Sam. Sam beautifully swept the ball into the top corner - dramatically taking a clip from a Vets defender which wasn't enough to deflect from coming in off the post.
Vets drew level following a quick free hit on the back line which found their strikes on the P spot to slot home. Vets' second was unfortunate for Dale.
Vets tactics changed at half time with close man-to-man marking. Both sides scored again. Sam scored a second - his first shot dribbled through the goalie's legs and Sam ran round the back to secure the goal - no pretty but all count.
The match finished 3-2 against Nomads, but it was a creditable performance - pleasing against such strong opposition of ex-international and National League players.
