Result: 0-3; Occasional Goalie, Dale, puts in an exceptional performance between the posts

For either of Arthur or Tim to be missing from a Twos line-up over the past few years is unusual. For them both to be missing on the same day is unheard of. However, apart from a few heart-stopping moments (mainly when Rich kept the collective ensemble gathered at the Squash Club trying to work out how 7 players could make it to Peterborough in a single car if he decided to travel direct at the last moment) the team turned in an excellent performance.

Although being on the receiving end of a number of short-corners, the team managed to get to half-time still locked at 0-0. And indeed, even right up until the third-quarter, the score remained the same. Unfortunately, after a missed-tackle here, a breakaway there, and a fine individual goal to top things off, Nomads went down 0-3 to a superior Peterborough team.

As ever, Barry was immense in defence, despite having being speared in a first-half tackle that left him wondering whether or not he’d sustained a cracked-rib in the process. However, the game’s ‘Man of the match’ just had to go to Dale in goal, who produced one of the finest goalkeeping displays that anyone in the team could remember for many a year. So good was the performance that at one stage, with not a Nomad in sight, it was Dale against 3 Peterborough forwards. Not only did he save the first shot from barely 4-yards, but the rebound that was unwittingly returned to the same forward (now at 3-yards distant) was similarly stopped, but this time parried away to relative safety, i.e. there was a tracking-back Nomad in the same time-zone.

Peterborough looked after us fabulously in the post-match clubhouse, where the volume of sausages and chips on display had to be seen to be believed. As ever, this humble scribe was grateful for a cup of tea served out of one of the largest tea-pots ever seen on this side of the Humber Bridge.
