This slip game proved exceptionally difficult to raise a full team - MASSIVE THANKS to Dave Spence who played for the Ones at Coldhams and then travelled 90 minutes to Spalding to join the Twos - we're hugely grateful!!
There were plenty of noteworthy Nomadic performances: Lewis made numerous fantastic saves, Jordan looks increasingly comfortable in his right midfield position and, on occasions, beautifully posted up and stuffed his defender down the line. Tom & Josh both played well & proved to capable of the pace of Div 4 hockey. Rich, Pete, Dave and Seth teamed up well as our back four. Seth's knee deserves a special honour for getting in the way of a rising Spalding short corner strike. After some consultation between the umpires, it was determined that Seth's knee WAS higher that the backboards and the goal was disallowed.
Spalding's goals were generally well worked although a couple of them resulted from a needless turnovers of Nomads attacks - a poignant lesson if it was ever needed. Nomads' first goal owes full credit to Ben Williams, who collected the ball in open space on the half way line and in a series of 1-2s all the way up the pitch, arrived at the P spot. There he managed to shovel the ball underneath the diving goal keeper on his reverse stick side to take the score to 2-1 at the half time break.
Nomads' second goal came as Ellis passed to Arthur on the back line. Spalding defence happily watched him march into the D, fire off a shot from a tight angle, which went under the diving goalie to find the side- and back-boards to sound out that pleasant thunk-thunk noise.
On to Skeggie!
