M2 make their mark as fast break specialists and win 4 – 2 to overturn the defeat at the start of the season

It was a 4pm start at Peterborough on a frosty day – fortunately the pitch held up until the end of the match.

Nomads, as has been their trademark, started well. Peterborough half cleared a ball which Matthew pounced on. He managed to make a bizarre pass whist running away from ball which sent the ball behind and square to him to find Sam on the edge of the D on the right side. Sam steamed in towards the goalkeeper and aimed the ball between his boots. The goalie did move his feet, but only to allow the ball to bounce of his right boot onto the backboards.

Peterborough came back promptly with their most skilful player running from the half way line, slipping passed numerous tackles to enter the D, committing Lewis and slotting in to equalize.

Nomads’ work rate was commendable again, with the four working tirelessly to snuff ‘Boro attacks. Nomads attack only needed to have one tactic – poach + fast break + blitzkrieg! Dan stole a slovenly pass between the last two defenders, raced towards goal, rounded the advancing keeper to tap in.

After the turnaround, Sam nabbed another weak defensive pass and created the fast break. He found Dan on the right hand side who took the ball down to the back line, carved his way along the line to find Arthur on the P spot to slot in.

Peterborough won a series of short corner routines and with an experienced forward line appeared to have numerous options open to them. On this occasion, they moved the ball just in time to evade our tackles and their man on the P spot converted.

Guest player from Edinburgh and former Nomad from the late 80s, Dave, was instrumental initiating Nomads’ fourth. Dave tackled a defender / poached a weak pass on the half way line. He released Arthur who found Dan on the 25 yard. He, in turn passed to Sam on the edge of the D. He slipped the ball to Ellis unmarked on his right who had the perfect angle to convert – a lovely team goal. You’re welcome any time, Dave!!

Arthur missed the final opportunity of the game breaking into the D and putting the ball inches wide. Was it a shot on goal or a pass to Sam on the back post? We’ll never know, but the result was a 4-2 victory, which overturned a 2-1 loss at the first game of the season.
