Nomads Men's Twos make the difference in the last 5 mins to clinch 5-3 win at St Ives

The Men's club were comparatively flooded with talent with all three sides fielding 14 or more players, easing the mid-week strain on your captains considerably.

The umpires weren't quite ready for an 11am start, so Nomads benefited from some extra pre-match warm-up. Based on the first 10 minutes of play, this extra time seemed to do them no good was so ever. Fortunately, the Nomads rhythm developed out of our defensive back four.

Arthur hit the backboards from our first short corner routine (and possibly the first hit with his new stick!). St Ives pulled one back from their own short corner routine.

The deadlock was broken when Matthew, on the right midfield, picked up the ball on his reverse stick and slipped past his man. His pass found a Returning Nomad at the top of the D. He cleverly let the ball drift further onto his reverse stick side and deftly slotted under the keeper.

Nomads' third was a delight to behold. A fast break gave the Returning Nomad the ball who passed the ball to Dan who went 1:1 with the goalie. The goalie went to ground and Dan gently lifted the ball over the keeper for the ball to gently trundle into the goal.

At half time, Nomads could have some confidence that they had the game by the scruff of the neck. But St Ives converted two short corners, leveling the match.

Nomads' play became increasingly urgent as they had the upper hand, but didn't have the points on the board to prove it. With five minutes to go, a long corner taken by Ellis found Arthur just inside the D. He rounded two tackles, pinged a shot off to hear the sweet clatter of the backboards: 4-3.

With the final play of the game, Dan J collected the ball and just outside the D, scampered inside and lashed off a peachy shot into the back of the net. And the whistle blew immediately afterwards.
