Following the dearth of player availability across the club, all teams actually had some substitutes this weekend - and what a difference that made to the captains' stress levels and time spent on the preceding Wed / Thurs / Fri. Long may it continue.
On a pleasant afternoon at St Neots, Nomads superior mobility and passing and dominance of the middle of the park took its toll with a workman-like performance which brought home 3 much-needed points. St Neots back line was not without defensive talent, but Nomads soon learnt to pass the ball rather than go round these stalwarts.
Early Nomad attacks resulted in the ball being liberally sprayed well wide of the goal. However, a short corner routine slotted the ball back to Fitchy as injector to push the ball past the keeper: 1-0. Dan J was gently harassing a defender at the top of the D, when he unexpectedly coughed up to the ball. Dan gathered the ball and fired home nicely.
In the second half, Nomads' confidence rose with Carl doing an excellent job of snuffing out St Neots most dangerous attacker. Credit to Jordan for an excellent performance on the right wing - his native position.
At a Nomads short corner, Dan slipped the ball to Matt. Arthur deflected the initial shot which rattled off the goal keeper and then he pounced on the rebound to make it 3-0. Nomads' final goal came from a well worked manoeuvre from open play: Tim from the 25 yard line to Matt, to Sam and finally Si Fitch dispatched it.
At the final whistle, the result was 4-0 - a lovely feeling to be in the winners' enclosure and to gain some points to lift off the bottom of 4NW.
