Twos come an unwarranted second at Wisbech

Nomads had a late start at Wisbech – made even later by Cambridge traffic and then agricultural vehicles in the Fenlands. As a result, the warm up was condensed down to bending down to tighten laces before the whistle.

Nomads put themselves in front with a good maneouver that was initially well defended. In the goal mouth scrabble that resulted, new fella, Matt Cox, managed to squeeze the ball in past a line of defenders and a prostrate goal keeper.

Nomads led at the break, but Wisbech pulled one back fifteen minutes into the second half. Unfortunately, the tempers on the park began to fray, with some inelegant tackles. Tim, in particular, was on the receiving end of several incidents of unwarranted aggression from one Wisbech player. A yellow card was waved at another Wisbech player, but your captain felt that more should have been displayed, given the dangerous nature of the host's play. (To the credit of the Wisbech captain, he did apologise twice at the end of the match and in the bar as to the distasteful atmosphere on the pitch.)

With level pegging, Arthur ballooned the ball over the bar from a clear opportunity from a shortie with the keeper having gone to ground. Wisbech scored a second which, sadly, was permitted as a Wisbech foot in the D wasn't spotted by either umpire. The final result was 2-1 - this was a game where luck wasn't with Nomads!

Credit to the defensive line-up again for continually breaking down some lively Wisbech attacks. Young Marcus had another good game between the sticks and great to have Tim back with all his hard work in the middle.
